Feeling burnt out? Bring the spark back into your business

But what is burnout?

Burnout is physical, emotional and mental reactions that are caused by excessive stress and overworking. The overwhelming emotions can lead to a loss in interest, reduced productivity and having little to no energy.

What are some signs of burnout?

Here are some signs of burnout:

  • Reduced creativity
  • Exhaustion
  • Isolation
  • Feeling overwhelmed at work
  • Loss of motivation
  • Low sense of personal accomplishment

Here are some ways you can combat burnout and bring the spark back into your business:

Set boundaries

A good way to combat burnout is by setting boundaries and scheduling breaks. Scheduling breaks allows you to ensure you are getting the downtime you need. Taking the time away from your desktop/laptop/phone allows you to reset and will make you more productive when you return to the task at hand.

Keeping work within work hours is important to keep burnout away. Your body needs time to relax and have time away from the pressures of work so setting boundaries between work life and personal life is important for your wellbeing. Not having the correct work life balance is often seen as one of the biggest causes for burnout.

Refocus on what is important for yourself and your business

It is easy to lose focus on what is important for both yourself and your business. If you feel you have lost a sense of what you are trying to achieve, it may be time to refocus and plan what it is you are working towards. Refocusing your goals and making sure you know what it is you are working towards can help you focus on your tasks and make you more enthusiastic when you know what you are trying to achieve.

Manage your work load

It can be hard to say no but always saying yes can lead to unnecessary workloads that are too hard to manage. When someone comes to you with a job, assess the situation firstly to see if this is something you are capable of taking on. Even if you are capable of carrying out the task itself, doesn’t mean you need to take on another job if you’re feeling you have too much on your plate. A good way to think about this is that by you not doing the job, someone else may take the job on and will gain knowledge that they didn’t previously have. It is important not to get snowed under by work, for both your quality of work and your own personal wellbeing.
